Before Mary Taylor Spends One Day As Lt. Governor, She Tells GOP Circles She Will Likely Run for Senate

COLUMBUS – Today, the Ohio Democratic Party responded to news that a GOP aide told Ohio News Network reporter Jim Heath that he or she is “90% sure Mary Taylor will seek senate seat against Brown in ‘12.”

“Gov. Kasich’s hand hadn’t even left the Bible before Mary Taylor was telling GOP aides about her intentions with regard to the U.S. Senate race,” said Ohio Democratic Party Communications Director Seth Bringman. “Voters deserve that she spend at least a few days as Lt. Governor before running for another office.”

Last month, Taylor was asked by the Cleveland Plain Dealer about her 2012 plans and said she had “not ruled out” running for U.S. Senate.

Widespread speculation in political circles is that Mary Taylor became then-gubernatorial candidate John Kasich’s running mate after being promised that she would be the Ohio Republican Party’s pick for U.S. Senate in 2012. Taylor expressed a strong interest in running for U.S. Senate in 2010 before waging a short-lived campaign for re-election as State Auditor.
