South Carolina Republican Rep. Joe Wilson yelled "You lie!" to President Obama when the president said his health care plan would not cover illegal immigrants. Wilson was identified in a news report by the Associated Press. Obama stopped for a moment after Wilson yelled during his speech. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi glared and first Lady Michelle Obama reportedly shook her head from side to side. In a post-speech interview with CNN's Larry King, Sen. John McCain said Rep. Wilson's behavior was disrespectful and called on the South Carolina Republican to apologize to the president. In a rare joint session to Congress, Obama attempted to dispute the "misinformation" about health care reform, including rumors about death panels and coverage for abortion. Obama also rebutted the notion that his plan would create death panels, which he said "is a lie, plain and simple." |
