The Columbus Foundation Announces The Big Give Historic event offers a record $1 million match from Foundation donors
Columbus, OH (October 28, 2011) – The Columbus Foundation’s first 24-hour,
community wide giving event, The Big Give, will kick off at 11:00 a.m. on November 10,
and aims to give an economic boost to a wide range of local nonprofit organizations
that serve our region. A record $1,000,000 in matching funds generously provided by
donors of The Columbus Foundation will expand the size of all donations and reward
participants.
“The Big Give is an amazing opportunity for us to come together and show how big
hearted our community is,” said Douglas F. Kridler, president and CEO. “It comes at a
critical time for our community’s nonprofits, which have been working hard to meet
increased demand for services in the aftermath of the recession. Our local nonprofits
deserve our support for all they do to strengthen our community.”
A total of 600 local nonprofits are part of The Big Give, and have created informational
profiles, called “portraits,” in The Columbus Foundation’s PowerPhilanthropy,® an
online giving marketplace. These nonprofits, which serve the arts, human services, the
environment, animal welfare, and education, are eligible to receive donations from
the community during The Big Give.
The Big Give, a 24-hour event, begins at 11:00 a.m. on November 10, and ends at
11 a.m. on November 11. Everyone is invited to participate with a minimum credit card
donation of $20 made to the nonprofit of their choice. All participants will receive a
pro-rated match. Complete details about The Big Give, the pro-rated match, and a list
of the 600 participating nonprofits are available on The Columbus Foundation website,
www.columbusfoundation.org.
The Columbus Foundation’s PowerPhilanthropy recently relaunched to make it easier
for everyone to learn about and give to the nonprofit organizations of their choice. The
Foundation is committed to sharing community knowledge and helping donors to be
as informed as possible when giving to the causes they care about. PowerPhilanthropy
portraits enable nonprofits to showcase their work and share information about their
programs, missions, management, and finances.
Since the launch of PowerPhilanthropy in 2008, special giving events created by The
Columbus Foundation have pumped nearly $7 million into local nonprofits and have
demonstrated leadership in generating support for the work of nonprofit organizations
serving our community. Events have ranged from match days for greatest needs to
targeted campaigns for individual nonprofit sectors. Additionally, PowerPhilanthropy
serves as an extra resource to help local nonprofits expand their bases of support from
individual donors.
