Tomorrow is the day set for the important vote to move forward with the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
This vote is an important hurdle to make repeal a reality – but the fight is far from over: Our opponents’ pressure to filibuster threatens to stop repeal from moving forward.
Senator John McCain has threatened to block the vote from even happening, so we have to let our lawmakers know that the time for repeal is now.
Swing senators are making up their minds as we speak. We must do everything we can to let these senators know, as well as those who are already on our side, that both the American people and our military’s leaders support bringing this law to an end.
Email your senators and tell them the Senate MUST repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
This is a 100-senator strategy, and we need your help to make it work. Though public opinion and top military leaders are with us, repeal is absolutely not a sure thing.
Our opponents have tried everything to prevent repeal from moving forward. From unsupported claims based on fear and ignorance to legislative maneuvering, opponents of equality are trying to stop repeal in its tracks.
We need to take every action that we can to let our senators know that our country is tired of this outdated law.
Call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask them to connect you to your senator’s office or email your senators here to let them know that you support the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” Don’t forget, once you have contacted your senator, ask your friends to do the same.
Let us stand together to let our lawmakers know that repeal is not just the smart thing to do, it is the right thing to do, and it is the will of the American people.
