Progressive Organizations Line Up Behind Beatty after Primary

Central Ohio AFL-CIO, Emily’s List, Human Rights Campaign, and Stonewall Democrats Announce Endorsement of Joyce Beatty

On March 6th, 2012, Joyce Beatty won a 4-way Primary to gain the Democratic nomination for the new 3rd Congressional District in Ohio.  Joyce ran on a positive message of being a New Voice in Congress and supporting policies to help create jobs and work to protect Social Security and Medicare. After the Primary, Joyce began meeting with groups across the political spectrum. Joyce reached out to inform organizations that will be ready to represent the people of central Ohio when elected to Congress.

The campaign is pleased to announce the new endorsements of the Central Ohio AFL-CIO; Emily’s List, a pro-choice women’s advocacy organization; and the Human Rights Campaign and Stonewall Democrats, who support equality issues for the LGBT community.

Joyce Beatty stated, “I am excited by the support from each of these
organizations.  With the help of their members, we will work together to tackle the issues facing the district and fight for middle class families, women’s rights, and equality for all as a New Voice in Congress.”

Joyce Beatty has turned her attention to the general election. Recently, Joyce Beatty began her community outreach by meeting with the mayors of Bexley, Gahanna, and Reynoldsburg and plans to continue meeting with additional mayors, community leaders, and constituents within the district.

Last Friday, she stood up with students from Otterbein University advocating for the President Obama’s plan to lower interest rates for student loans and detailing the ill effects that the Romney supported Ryan budget would have on higher education and Pell grants.  The statewide coverage is posted on facebook at www.facebook.com/joycebeattyforcongress.com.

More on what these organizations are saying about Joyce Beatty and her bid for Congress:

Walt Workman, Central Ohio AFL-CIO

“Joyce Beatty stood up for working families and was an ally to labor while serving as Democratic Leader in the Ohio House of Representatives.  Joyce isn’t afraid to stand up for what she believes in and we need people like her in Congress.  Her focus on jobs and protecting Medicaid will serve the 3rd Congressional District well.”

Joe Solmonese, President of Human Rights Campaign

“Joyce Beatty has proven herself a leader in the fight for equality in the Ohio Legislature and will be an amazing advocate for the LGBT community in Congress. She understands that fighting for middle class families includes fight for LGBT families.  We are proud to endorse her candidacy and look forward to working with her in Congress.”

Stephanie Schriock, President of Emily’s List

“Now more than ever, we need strong Democratic women in Washington – and Joyce Beatty is ready to get to work on what matters for Ohio families.  She’s a smart businesswoman and a strong voice for women. Joyce isn’t afraid to stand up to the misplaced priorities of the right in order to help build a more progressive America…we’re thrilled to be able to help send Joyce Beatty to Congress.”
