Insurance Department chief Hudson hands in resignation

Ohio Department of Insurance Director Mary Jo Hudson has tendered her resignation less than a week before Republican Gov.-elect John Kasich’s administration takes over.
Hudson said Tuesday that her last day on the job will be Friday. Her resignation is effective Monday, when Kasich is sworn in. A former Columbus City Council member, Hudson was appointed to the Insurance Department when outgoing Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland took office in 2007.
Hudson said in a statement that she’s “proud of the many changes that we have implemented over the past four years that effectively protected Ohio insurance consumers while encouraging the state’s growth as a vibrant and competitive insurance market.”
Kasich has made a number of cabinet appointments in recent weeks but hasn’t yet tapped a new leader for the department.
