clipped from www.npr.org Leading up to Election Day on Tuesday, the governor's races in Virginia and New Jersey, along with New York's 23rd Congressional District, are getting most of the attention. On the eve of this year's vote, however, many are already eyeing next year's midterm elections, which are sure to be an even greater referendum on President Obama. And no place will be watched more closely than Ohio. A perpetual battleground in presidential elections, Ohio's midterms in 2010 boast several marquee races that will help determine the balance in the U.S. House and Senate. Also in the Buckeye State, the retirement of Republican Sen. George Voinovich means a U.S. Senate seat is up for grabs. And three brand new Democratic representatives, each of whom rode Obama's coattails to victory in longtime GOP districts last year, will have to show voters how they've made a difference for their districts. |
